What is the Best 3D TV available to buy right now? That is what people want to know I suppose? Forget the rest, if I walked into a shop today what is the 3D TV I would want to leave with. Price – not bothered. Environment – not bothered. Can I plug this or that into it – not bothered. Addons and other junk – not bothered. The best 3D TV delivers the the best 3D experience. That is all. So without any more build up here is the best 3D TV right now (in my opinion of course):-
LG LW650 (US Equivalent LG LW6500)
Up until this TV I was convinced that Active 3D would win the battle between Active and Passive, I was wrong. The LG 47LW650 produces stunning 3D. Do you live in a world where crosstalk is an issue? Not anymore. Go passive with the LW650 and you can forget about crosstalk. Yes others have promised it but this TV deals with bad sources much better than any other 3D TV I’ve seen to date.
Of course there are extra benefits from using passive technology, there is absolutely no flicker even in a brightly lit TV shop (no more closing the curtains for the latest 3D blockbuster) and it’s generally much more family friendly. LG give you 7 sets of glasses with the TV and it’s not like it is the end of the world if one of your little darlings sits on a pair. I’d kill my daughter if she crashed down on a pair of £150 active 3D glasses!
The doubters among you will be questioning the resolution problem with using passsive 3D, I know I was, but this TV seems to deal with it very well. Even with a Bluray 3D movie playing the resolution difference didn’t appear noticable between this and acive 3D sets. Picture brightness and the colours stand up well throughout, you don’t get any sense of watching your TV through a pair of shades with this one.
There are a couple of downsides of course, for a start it’s not cheap at around £1800 to buy (You can find deals for as low as £1300). Then there’s the sound which is not up to the standards of some modern panels. But that’s not what we’re talking about here, we’re looking for the best 3D TV you can go out and buy right now to deliver the best 3D experience. For my money the LG 47LW650 is that TV.
Special Note For US Visitors – The TV I talk about here is the UK version, obviously manufacturers release different specifications for their sets in different countries and being based in the UK I can only test what is available here. However I believe the LG LW6500 is the approximate equivalent in the United States.
