I was fortunate enough to bump into one of these beasts in the flesh yesterday. In a day and age where so many flat screens blend into each other in terms of styling this monster from Samsung really does stand out. Question is though, is the Samsung UE55C9000 any good?

I’ve got to admit that standing in the showroom I was drawn straight away to the C9000. Even from several yards away there was something about the picture quality that distinguished this set from the dozens of others. It was playing a 3D movie but even without 3D glasses and with the obvious shadowing you could tell the smoothness and clarity was a step above the rest. My day to day TV is a top of the range Phillips which is supposed to boast some of the best pictures from any screen but this Samsung was a notch above.

Samsung C9000 Is Very ThinThe next thing to stand out is the “throw back” to silver. The version I saw was included a brushed aluminium surround, harking back perhaps to the days when everybody was into grey/silver TVs, remember that? The finish reminded me very much of a top of the range kitchen appliance. I took the opportunity to give the Samsung C9000 a good look at all around, it oozes quality. If you’re the sort of person that likes to shout “but look at how thin it is” then this really could be the set for you. I have seen various reports of the width but I’ll stick to Samsungs official figures that rate it at 7.98mm (yes that is millimetres). You’ve got to see it with your own eyes to appreciate just how thin this is. It will leave you wondering just how they have fitted all the techy gizmos into such a small space.

Up till now what we can see is a 55inch television that delivers stunning picture performance (straight on at least), is very thin, cheap to run and looks gorgeous. Did I also mention that the UE55C9000 will set you back about £7000? Oops.

It’s not the price that would stop me buying this set though. I COULD have been having this delivered to our house today but there are several reasons why I won’t be. First of all I just can’t help feeling that it looks too delicate. The display is too thin in my opinion, one accidental knock and it looks like it could be over, or perhaps even worse twist and crack. Perhaps a secure wall mounting could alleviate this? That’s what I though to but there was a big sign next to this set “Not Wall Mountable”. I just wouldn’t be happy having a £6999 television which is so thin and light perched on a cabinet.

Samsung UE55C9000 Conclusion

Overall then the C9000 I saw absolutely looked the part, if you’re looking for the perfect TV to show off to your friends then you don’t need to look any further. Picture quality, wow factor and stunning good looks. However from a practical point of view I can’t see any reason why any 55 inch television should could such a large amount of money. Especially one that seems more suited to showroom life than that of being an every day TV in your average house.
