This is brilliant news for anybody with a PS3 and a 3D TV. Sony have made Wipeout HD one of the 5 games that people can choose from as part of their welcome back package. Once patched this gives you an (excellent) full 3D game for free.
Unless you’ve been living living under a rock for the past 6 months you’ll be well aware of the certain security “issues” that have affected Sony and the PSN in particular. To say sorry for all the inconvenience Sony have given users of the PSN (people who were users before the problems) 2 full games for free, there are 5 to choose from, amongst these is Wipeout 3D.
In order to take advantage of this offer all you have to do is access the store and download the game as well as the full game unlock. There is also the option of downloading the expansion for free as well. Install all these and the first time you try to play you will be asked to download the latest patch, you need this in order to get the 3D mode. Finally once this is done on starting the game you will be prompted that the game has detected a 3D display and it will ask you if you want to switch to 3D. This makes playing Wipeout in 3D really simple. If you don’t get the prompt about the 3D display then the chances are that you’ll need to go through the steps I described in how to activate 3D for Gran Tourismo 5.
I know it’s all well and good having a 3D game to play but is it any good? The short answer to this is yes, it’s bloody excellent. A brilliant game and only made even better by the addition of some clever 3D. Even the tones used seem to suite the 3D very well by countering any natural darkening of the 3D process. Whem it comes to playing Wipout 3D or GT5 in 3D mode I’d take Wipeout any day.
